OotW 7August 4, 2006 - Not what I expected

I am shocked. Even though I wrote about why I thought open source releases were good things to vote for, I had not expected the open source choice to win the first vote. I don't know if it was because people actually read my blog, or if voters just figured that voting for the open source episode of One of those Weeks was the fastest way to get me to finally finish the 19th episode or if everyone just hates the two solitaire board games. Still 75% of the people who voted wanted the open source release over the game release meaning that today's release is the Open Source version of One of those Weeks episode 7. I have some very interesting plans moving forward for better utilizing Open Source which I will slowly post in my blog on spelchan.com.

OotW Episode 19August 11, 2006 - Buying the vote

The number of people voting this week was surprisingly low considering that both options were games. Millionaire Charles Chink won the vote with a landslide (though one person did vote for solitaire) meaning that One of those Weeks episode 19: Charles Chink is going to be this week's release. Can't say I was even remotely surprised by the outcome. The replacement entry for this week's vote is going to be the open source release of Classic Chuck-A-Luck (though I may also release Modern Chuck a Luck at the same time if my Open Source strategy [as will eventually be outlined in my blog] starts getting underway).

For people who are following my blog, I probably won't know what is going on with my mac until Sunday. For the other 99% of you, today's release is the solitaire board game (using the english board layout). This is a simple to play but difficult to solve puzzle. Next week's vote is between an open source release and an article. To make sure everyone is clear about things, voting for Chapter 7 will NOT result in Episode 20 of One of those Weeks being put on the list.

Making OotW Chapter 7August 25, 2006 - Opening the meeting

Even though the replacement this week is not going to be episode 20 of One of those Weeks, the vast majority of voters voted for Making of One of those Weeks Chapter 7. Now the big news. I have decided that everything on the site (with a couple of exceptions) is going to be either part of a shareware offering or will be open source. My shareware offerings will be multi-episode games that will have a registered version with all the episodes while the episodes are slowly released on this site for free. Once all the episodes of a shareware game have been released, the game will be released as open source as well. New games for the site will be created from scratch as open source.More details of my plans will be appearing in my blog. Of course, the first thing to do is start open sourcing my existing games so, which game should be released as open source next?

August 28, 2006 - Accelerate my source

A quick update here. As putting source code on a repository isn't that hard of a task, I have decided that I would speed up the release of the bulk of my games as open source. I have also decided that the home page will stay with the weekly update (other than this announcement of course) so the voting has been moved to the coming soon page and will be updated daily there. Every friday I will summarize which games have been open sourced.
