Through the Forest Fully

Those of you who followed the walk through in the first section have probably noticed that you did not achieve the best possible score. In fact, it is possible to score anywhere from 3 to 7 points. There are eight factors for scoring, with four of those required to complete the game. Lets take a bit of time to take a look at all eight of the scoring elements.

The first thing that a lot of players are going to try and do is to click on the ax. This will give them a big hint about what they have to do this episode, but will also result in a lost point. After all, Charles obviously doesn't trust the player so reaching for an ax is not a very smart thing to do.

Talking to Charles will bring up three conversation branches, two of which can earn you a point. The first one is to refer to him as Charles. If you do this before giving him a pen, he will ask you to prove that he is Charles prompting you to give him a pen. Following proper logic is important to me, so I reward the player with a point if they are prompted to give Charles the pen before they do so.

The other talking point that a player may want to investigate if they are interested in getting a perfect score is the island option. This is where Charles will want proof that the shore is near. As above, I like players doing things in a logical way so being prompted to prove Charles' location before giving him the GPS is worth a point.

Another thing that thorough players will want to investigate is the fire pit from the previous day. Noticing that the flint and the knife are missing and probably in the possession of Charles is worth a point. This holds true even if it is done after Charles has given the player those items. The logic to validate this is simply the fact that there are more than one piece of flint and more than one knife in the universe, so making special note that the items that Charles is giving you are in fact your items from an earlier episode is certainly point-worthy.

Giving Charles the pen will result in him acknowledging that he is in fact Charles and as a reward he will return your flint to you. Having the flint is vital to completing the game so the player is rewarded with a point for acquiring it.

Making the player return all the way to the cockpit of the plane to retrieve the GPS unit is a bit of work, though no where near as much work as it would have been had I decided to make the player navigate yet again through a 3D forest. Doing the trek has to be worth something, so I reward the player with a point.

Showing the GPS unit to Charles is half of the requirements for getting the knife, the other half is to click on the ax. Getting the knife is then worth a single point. While some people may argue that it is a bit trickier to get the knife, I will only point out that a point was already rewarded for acquiring the GPS so they are already indirectly getting extra points for getting the knife off of Charles.

Finding the stick is the final point in the game. The stick is obviously what you are going to be using for a torch in the next episode.
