Overview

One of the things I have noticed is that a lot of Game Jam participants are creating surprisingly good games using game making software so I have decided to take a look at some of the products that are available to see if I can take advantage of them for my larger scale projects. The best way of testing something is to actually create something using the tools. This game is my attempt at creating a game using the free version of Gamemaker Studio. While it is a good tool, the editors were simply too clunky for my needs and the features that I would want for my projects were only barely functional meaning that I would have to write a lot of custom code. If there is a really good Steam sale, I might reconsider Gamemaker but for now the tool just doesn't offer me enough. This simple sidescroller is my first attempt at creating a game. With a bit of polish it could be a decent game but as I am not buying the tool yet, I am not going to put the time in.
